海外の花き情報といえば、日頃からよく読んでいるFloralDaily。

暑さ対策と作物選択についての記事が二つほどありましたから取り上げてみたいと思います。

一つ目がマリーゴールドの切り花生産に取り組む話。もう一つがアジサイでもノリウツギに取り組む話。

 

◆その１：マリーゴールド

タゲテス・ココはオランダの屋外栽培でその地位を見出しています

オランダで大規模な露地生産者がマリーゴールドを生産という記事。種苗はサカタさんの品種。

暑熱対策の点から選んだと書いてあるわけではありませんが、暑さに強いマリーゴールドを選択している時点でこの記事は暑熱対策と品目選定をしたとしか思えません。

 

◆その２：ノリウツギ

「4週間長く咲く花が、最終的には全ての違いを生むことがある」

こちらはノリウツギ（ハイドランジア・パニクラータ）のブリーダーの話。記事の中に、通常のアジサイよりもパニクラータの方が乾燥に強いとあります。

日本でも枝もの人気を背景に切り花のパニクラータを生産品目として選択する動きが広がっています。一つにはトレンドとしてのバーティカルな草姿という面とそれからいわゆるアジサイよりも暑さに強いということがあるようですね。フラワー・オブ・ザ・イヤーOTAの2023年の最優秀賞は秋色ミナヅキ（ハイドランジア・パニクラータ）でした。

 

暑熱対策としては、栽培技術や資材などでの対策、生産する場所をそもそも変えるなどの対策がありますが、品目を変えるという動きも世界中で広がっているということを表す記事でした。

花研ブログでもこうした動きを取り上げておりますので当社のブログをさかのぼってみてくださいな。

When it comes to international floriculture news, one of the sources I regularly read is FloralDaily.

Recently, I came across a couple of interesting articles related to climate adaptation and crop selection, and I thought they would be worth sharing.

 

One focuses on cut flower production of marigolds, while the other looks at panicle hydrangeas (Hydrangea paniculata).

 

◆ Topic 1: Marigolds

Read the article here:”Tagetes Coco finds its place in Dutch outdoor cultivation”

 

The article reports that a large-scale Dutch field grower has started producing marigolds. The variety being grown was developed by Sakata Seed.

The article does not explicitly state that marigolds were chosen as a response to rising temperatures. However, considering that marigolds are well known for their heat tolerance, it is difficult not to view this as a good example of crop selection as a strategy for climate adaptation.

 

◆ Topic 2: Panicle Hydrangeas

This article features a breeder of panicle hydrangeas (Hydrangea paniculata). According to the article, panicle hydrangeas are more drought-tolerant than the mophead hydrangeas that most people commonly associate with “hydrangeas.”

In Japan as well, cut flower production of panicle hydrangeas has been gaining attention, supported in part by the growing popularity of woody branches and flowering branch materials.

One reason is their naturally vertical growth habit, which fits current design trends. Another is their greater tolerance of summer heat compared with conventional hydrangeas.

Readers may recall that Autumn Minazuki (Hydrangea paniculata) received the Grand Prize at the Flower of the Year Ota 2023.
When it comes to coping with rising temperatures, growers can adopt new cultivation techniques, introduce different production materials, or even relocate production areas. Increasingly, however, another option is gaining attention around the world: changing what crops are grown in the first place.

These articles illustrate just how widespread that trend is becoming.
